REO Speedwagon’s headline gig at the Greeley Stampede is a whole month away, but you can get yourself in the mood next weekend at the Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing Trans-Am Invitational.

About 150 sedans, sports cars and Formula cars manufactured in 1972 or earlier will hit the 10K road course at Pueblo Motorsports Park, racing from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

You may see some actual Trans-Ams on the track, but race chairman Keith Davidson notes that because the race takes its name from a series back in the ’60s that pitted muscle cars from the big-three manufacturers against each other, there will also be Mustangs, Camaros, Barracudas and some European models running too.

Watch for free, but if you want a plate at the trackside barbecue Saturday night, where Shelby American Terlingua team captain Lew Spencer speaks, you’ll need to buy a ticket in advance. Details at rmvr.com or at 303-319-3062.
