A defrocked Catholic priest was sentenced to prison this morning for sexually molesting a 17-year-old boy in Fort Collins between 1998 and 2002.
Timothy J. Evans, 44, of Loveland received at least 14 years to a maximum of life in prison.
Larimer County District Judge Jolene Blair handed down the sentence, which Evans’ lawyer, Andy Gavaldon, said would be appealed.
Evans is set to be sentenced again Thursday in Jefferson County District Court, where he was convicted in April of similar molestation charges involving a 16-year-old boy in Arvada between 1995 and 1997.
Evans is the only clergyman to be convicted of sexual assault in Colorado since the clergy-abuse crisis emerged in the U.S. Catholic Church in 2002.
He was ordained in 1993 and served as assistant pastor at Spirit of Christ Catholic Community in Arvada until 1996.
He then served at Our Lady at Fatima in Lakewood until 1998, then at the St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Fort Collins until he was removed in 2003.
