DENVER—The Colorado Avalanche signed forward Scott Parker and defenseman Johnny Boychuk to one-year contracts Wednesday.

Parker, one of Colorado’s first-round draft picks in 1998, was traded to San Jose in 2003 for a fifth-round draft pick. The Avalanche re-acquired him last season in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick in 2008.

Parker had a goal and an assist in 10 games for Colorado last season, and has recorded seven goals, 14 assists and 629 penalty minutes in 283 career NHL games.

“Scott is an intimidating player who brings energy and toughness to our team,” Avalanche general manager Francois Giguere said.

Boychuk, 23, was Colorado’s second pick in the 2002 draft and tallied 10 goals, 18 assists and 125 penalty minutes for Albany of the American Hockey League this past season.
