Westminster – An 8-year-old boy was killed and his 10-year-old brother injured Saturday night when a hit-and-run driver crashed into the go-kart they were riding, Westminster police said.

Police were searching for the driver of the vehicle who hit the go-kart at about 6:30 p.m. near Mandalay Middle School, investigator Stephanie Topkoff said.

The boys, who were staying with their grandparents while their parents are traveling, were driving the go-kart down 96th Avenue near Pierce Street.

Police had not found any witnesses to the crash, but said the first people to arrive afterward performed CPR on the younger boy. His older brother was walking around in a daze, Topkoff said.

The 10-year-old was in stable condition at Children’s Hospital with cuts and bruises.

The names of the children were not released because police had not been able to reach their parents, Topkoff said.

She asked anyone who notices new, unexplained damage to a vehicle to call Westminster police.
