COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The USGA will stage the 2011 U.S. Women’s Open at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs.
The resort, which has hosted five national championships, will also host the Senior Men’s Open next year.
“We feel the momentum from the Senior Men’s will carry us right into the Women’s Open,” Broadmoor golf director Russ Miller said after the selection was announced Wednesday.
The Broadmoor hosted the 1995 Women’s Open, where Annika Sorenstam had her first professional victory.
The U.S. Golf Association wanted to bring the Women’s Open back to Colorado after the 2005 tournament at Cherry Hills Country Club drew record crowds.
USGA executive director David Fay said Cherry Hills hasn’t requested another chance to host the event, although it did ask to host the U.S. Men’s Amateur. In recent years, courses that host the Men’s Amateur host the Men’s Open later.
The Men’s Open has been held in Colorado three times, all at Cherry Hills.
