Guillermo Barros Schelotto scored on a penalty kick and host the Columbus Crew extended its MLS unbeaten streak to six games with a 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake on Saturday.
Eddie Gaven added a goal in the 80th minute to give Columbus four wins and two ties in its past six games.
Salt Lake remains at the bottom of the Western Conference with a league-worst nine points.
“To be on a roll is important,” Columbus coach Sigi Schmid said. “I really attribute this to the guys, because when we were going through the bad streak they didn’t stop believing in what we were trying to do.”
Referee Alex Prus awarded the penalty kick after Real Salt Lake defender Ritchie Kotschau brought down Andy Herron inside the penalty area as Herron tried to fight his way toward the goal in the 75th minute.
Schelotto knocked the penalty kick past goalie Nick Rimando for his second goal of the season.
Gaven made it 2-0 when he redirected a crossing pass from Alejandro Moreno for his second goal of the year.
REVOLUTION 1, CHIVAS USA 1 at Foxborough, Mass.: Midfielder Andy Dorman’s sixth goal of the season helped New England salvage a tie with Chivas USA.
New England converted just its second corner kick in 61 chances when midfielder Steve Ralston sent the ball into the box from the right side – setting up Dorman’s right-footed shot in the 64th minute.
Chivas went ahead 1-0 four minutes into the match when Claudio Suarez converted a corner kick.
FIRE 1, TORONTO FC 1 at Bridgeview, Ill.: Chicago’s Chad Barrett scored on a penalty kick to help the Fire earn a tie with Toronto FC.
Toronto’s Tyrone Marshall took down Barrett in the box in the 69th minute. Barrett drove the ball into the net past Toronto goalie Srdjan Djekanovic for his fourth goal of the season to make it 1-0.
The goal in the 70th minute was the Fire’s first in 286 minutes and the first shot on goal in 163 minutes. Toronto tied it in the 78th minute on Maurice Edu’s third goal of the season.
GALAXY 2, WIZARDS 2 at Carson, Calif.: Yura Movsisyan and Davy Arnaud scored in the first six minutes of the second half, but Cobi Jones responded with two goals to lift Los Angeles into a tie with Kansas City.
It marked Los Angeles’ final game before David Beckham joins the team. The former England captain will be introduced by the club Friday. The Galaxy are fifth in the Western Conference, 16 points behind first-place FC Dallas.
