Kermit the Frog sang “it’s not easy being green,” but organizers of the 10th anniversary Booklovers’ Ball would beg to differ, even though the fuzzy Muppet wasn’t talking about minimizing the effects of global warming whenever he croaked out the words of that song.

“Elements” is the theme for the Oct. 20 dinner-dance, and the emphasis will be on conservation. In fact, at a kickoff party held at Bea and former Gov. Roy Romer’s home, the committee had a Top 10 List for attendees to heed.

Buy your tickets online, the list began. Other suggestions were to recycle your invitation; wear a gown that’s already in your closet; take a short shower – or share a shower with a friend – before heading to the party; share a ride to the ball; and enjoy the locally grown ingredients featured on the evening’s menu.

The ball is being planned by “legacy chairs” Kristina and K.C. Veio, Mary Smith, Marcy and Bruce Benson, Jaren Ducker, Joan Wohlgenant, Gillian Goodman, Ellen Anderman, Louise Hurlbut, Hanne Lichtenfels and Margaret Cunningham. Landri Taylor, former vice president of the Denver Library Commission, heads the corporate committee.

Guests at the kickoff included the Romers’ son and daughter-in-law, state Sen. Chris and Laurie Romer; retired Colorado Supreme Court Justice Luis Rovira and his wife, Lois Ann; Jimmy Calano; Jay Mead and his wife, Carol Svendsen; Carolyn Goble and Lanny Proffer; Will Singleton; Melissa Harris; Steve Hansen; Library commissioners Karen Rokala, Suneeta Hazra, Kevin O’Connor and Sid Wilson; and City Librarian Shirley Amore.

The good stuff

It’s a girl – Peyton Marguerite – for CBS 4 exec Ed Crony and his wife, Elizabeth Byrnes Crony. Peyton entered the world July 3 at 7 pounds, 10 ounces, and everyone is “tired, but doing well. Very well,” the proud papa reports … The Inverness Hotel and Golf Club is the setting Aug. 24 for the 10th anniversary Joe and Debbie Sakic Bash. It’s a benefit for Food Bank of the Rockies and the “surf’s up” theme will be carried out in food, décor and auction items … Looking ahead to fall – specifically October – Men for the Cure will have a couple of big announcements at its annual dinner: that fund-raising has topped the $1 million mark and that the new breast cancer center at University Hospital on the Fitzsimons campus will be named for the late Diane Thompson, whose husband, Jeff, started Men for the Cure. On Oct. 20 one-time “Entertainment Tonight” host Bob Goen and wife Marianne Curan come to town to host the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s “Hooray for Hollywood” gala.
