A woman who leaped to her death from a moving ambulance has been identified as 36-year-old Mellissa Watkins of Aurora, authorities said today.

The ambulance was traveling north on Interstate 25 near East Orchard Road Sunday afternoon when Watkins jumped from the back for unknown reasons, said Lt. Dave Fisher of the Greenwood Village Police Department.

Police said they believe she jumped out on her own and was not pushed.

Watkins was an organ donor so the autopsy will be delayed and cause of death won’t be released until Tuesday morning, according to the coroner’s office.

An ambulance rushed her to Swedish Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. No vehicles struck Watkins, police said.
