Fox 31 morning anchor Heidi Hemmat is getting married July 28 to muscle activation therapist Jason Stone – but there’s no rest for the newlyweds. She’ll be back on the air two days later, talking about it.
“It’s going to be hard, but we’re in book,” she says – referring to the
Nielsen rating period. When it’s book, it’s too bad. You’re on TV, pal.
And even though book ends on Aug. 2, Hemmat is sticking around town for the wedding of Fox 31 reporter Marianne Martinez on Aug. 11. She’ll leave the reception, go right to the airport and catch the red-eye to Barbados. Two weeks after the nups, she’ll finally be on the beach.
“I will be so ready,” she says.
Tasty
Share Our Strength – Taste of the Nation started in the Westin Tabor Center 20 years ago. It grew and grew; it moved from Currigan Hall to Coors Field to the convention center and the campus of Johnson & Wales. It raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to feed the hungry.
Last year it went back to the Westin – and it’s there again this year on July 29 with a new format. No more food booths serving tastes to the minions, but 23 tables with 10 people each, served by 23 chefs and 23 celeb sous chefs.
Claudine Pepin will cook tableside with her husband, Altitude’s Rollie Wesen; Patty Calhoun will be paired with Bistro Vendome’s Matt Anderson; Molly Hughes with The Corner Office’s Jeff Bolton; Linda Alvarado with the Palm’s Jean Stone; Kirk Montgomery with Vesta’s Matt Selby; and yers truly cooks it up with Rioja’s Jennifer Jasinski – starting with sweet white corn soup!
Bidding for seats (pick me!) starts at $175 at .
Birthday boys
Josh Hanfling celebrates turning 40 tonight at a new LoDo lounge.
And Las Vegas itemizer Norm Clarke was surprised by his girlfriend, Cara Roberts, with a 65th birthday party Saturday night at Lucky Strike Lanes in Vegas. All the Strip’s big shots were there – and the Pussycat Dolls brought out the birthday cake.
“I thought it was an intervention,” says Norm. “It took my breath away. I still got a lump in my throat.”
Sketchy
Sketch at 250 Steele is shuttered – with a new Mexican joint set to take its place next month.
Owner Jesse Morreale says it will be a lot like his hit Mezcal on East Colfax – fast, funky, fun, with good Mex food, a slew of tequilas and killer margs.
Sketch, he says, never really recovered from the storms last winter. The new joint should fill the neighborhood’s Mexican cravings.
City spirit
A Post staffer saw Jane Fonda and a guy who looked an awful lot like Ted Turner this week at the Safari Club restaurant at the Holiday Inn in Thermopolis, Wyo. … Sightem: Bill Murray walking past Earls on the 16th Street Mall on Thursday afternoon. … When people ask me who I was most impressed with after an interview, I always say Lady Bird Johnson – who embraced an anti-littering campaign, saved our highways and celebrated the wildflower. … Sez who: “I couldn’t wait for success, so I went ahead without it.” Jonathan Winters
