LOVELAND, Colo.—Bryan Cox last month reported seeing an alligator rise up from the surface at this city’s Jayhawker Ponds, but nobody believed him.

One resident offered photographic evidence that what the 21-year-old saw was a large tiger muskie fish.

City officials believe him now and the ponds remained closed Friday after a reliable reported sighting of a 5- to 7-foot reptile.

In a statement, officials said they were working on a capture plan with county and state wildlife officials. Police officers and security guards have been posted to keep unwary visitors away.
