Denver — The Colorado Rockies optioned infielder Omar Quintanilla to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday and recalled right-handed pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez from Colorado Springs.

Jimenez, 23, joined the Rockies in Pittsburgh for his first stint in the major leagues this season. He went 8-5 with a 5.85 ERA in 19 starts at Colorado Springs, holding opponents to a .279 batting average. He’s gone 5-2 with a 3.54 ERA over his last seven starts.

Jimenez signed with Colorado as a non-drafted free agent in 2001 and made his major league debut last September, posting no record and a 3.52 ERA in two appearances.

Quintanilla appeared in one game in his second stint with the Rockies, as a pinch-runner in the ninth inning Sunday at Milwaukee. He had been called up Friday to take the roster spot of reliever Brian Fuentes (back), who went on the disabled list. In 15 games for the Rockies this season, Quintanilla has hit .256 with two RBIs.
