MASONVILLE, Colo.—They may be among the smallest dogs in the world, but that doesn’t stop Chihuahuas from being fiercely loyal.
Ask Monty Long.
He was playing with his 1-year-old grandson, Booker West, when a rattlesnake slithered up to the child and attacked on Thursday.
The family’s five-pound dog jumped in front and took the bites. “She got in between Booker and the snake, and that’s when I heard her yipe,” Monty said.
The dog required treatment and for a time appeared it might not survive.
Now she prances about. “She knew she was a good girl.”
“These little bitty dogs, they just don’t really get credit,” said grandma Denise Long.
