DENVER—Brad Penny was taken out of the game Thursday night after hurting himself beating out an infield single in the seventh inning.

Penny grabbed at his groin area after he reached first base. The trainers came out to examine him and he was led off the field.

Penny went six innings, giving up three runs and five hits. He also struck out three and walked three.

Derek Lowe hurt his groin the day before against Houston. He had an MRI exam on Thursday afternoon, but the results weren’t known at game time.
