WESTMINSTER, Colo.—A man accused of running a red light in a crash that killed a 10-year-old boy is a suspected Army deserter, police said.

Officers arrested Joshua Beadle, 21, late Friday on suspicion of drunken driving and vehicular homicide. He was also under investigation for reckless and drunken driving causing death, driving while his license is under restraint, obstructing police and giving false information. Beadle was accused of initially giving police a false name and birth date at the scene, police said.

Beadle was accused of striking a vehicle carrying 10-year-old Cole Collins on Friday. Collins was thrown from the vehicle when it rolled.

Beadle was charged with desertion from the U.S. Army on Dec. 22, police spokeswoman Heather Wood said.
