A dog owner stabbed a pit bull to death at a Broomfield dog park last week after the pit bull attacked the owner’s Doberman, Broomfield police announced today.

The incident happened the evening of July 30 at the Broomfield County Commons Dog Park on 13th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard. Several witnesses told police that the pit bull twice attacked the Doberman. During the first attack, owners were able to separate the dogs, police said.

But the owners were unable to separate the dogs during the second attack, and the owner of the Doberman drew a pocket knife and stabbed the pit bull, according to police.

Both dogs were taken to a veterinary clinic, and the pit bull later died from its injuries, police said.

The 17th Judicial District Attorney’s office is reviewing the case to see whether charges are warranted.
