Getting your player ready...

Rockies’ infielder Jeff Baker will be released from the hospital today after suffering a mild concussion and bruising on his left cheekbone, a source close to the player said.

It’s likely that Baker will end up on the disabled list, with indications that top prospect Ian Stewart will be promoted. Stewart, the regular third baseman for the Triple-A Colorado Springs Sky Sox, is batting .304 with 15 home runs and 65 RBIs.

Cubs starter Jason Marquis hit Baker with a fastball Friday night at Coors Field, the ball striking his helmet, then ricocheting off his face. Baker was down on the ground for several minutes before walking off by his own power.

Still, Baker received the best news possible — that there were no fractures.

Baker was filling in at first base for the second consecutive game for Todd Helton, who’s been sidelined with back spasms. Because Helton is hurting, it’s likely Stewart will be called up.

The Rockies still haven’t announced who will start on the mound Sunday, though Triple-A starter Tim Harikkala is the favorite to get the nod. Sky Sox left-hander Franklin Morales could also be up next week as the Rockies have an off-day that would allow them to finesse their rotation schedule.
