Troy Tulowitzki took out the Cubs, then took home co-National League Player of the Week honors today.
The Rockies’ shortstop shared the award with Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Tom Gorzelanny. Tulowitzki helped the Rockies complete a 5-2 homestand with a two-run double and his 15th home run in Sunday’s 6-3 victory over Chicago.
Tulowitzki went 14-for-29 last week with a baseball-best 27 total bases. He also had 12 RBIs.
“You can’t consider him a rookie anymore because he doesn’t do anything like a rookie,” teammate Garrett Atkins said. “He’s played Gold Glove-caliber defense and continues to make adjustments offensively.”
Atkins, Kazuo Matsui, Brad Hawpe and Josh Fogg were all nominated for the award. Hawpe and Matt Holliday won the prize earlier this season. Tulowitzki will receive a Swiss time piece for his accomplishment.
