For the first time in team history, the Avalanche will play at the Air Force Academy.

The Avs will hold their annual Burgundy-White scrimmage Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Cadet Ice Arena. Proceeds from the game will go to military families and other causes of the Avalanche’s youth hockey program.

“We’re honored to be associated with the Air Force Academy for a great cause,” Avalanche general manager Francois Giguere said. “Colorado Springs has always been a strong base of support for us going back to our early days in Colorado. This event will allow our fans in the area to see all of our players in action.”

The Avs have played most of their scrimmages at the University of Denver. They have also played exhibition games in Vail and Greeley.

Tickets for the game go on sale Monday at 9 a.m. through the Air Force Academy box office. Prices range from $12-$20. For more information, contact the Air Force Academy box office at 800-666-8723 or 719-472-1895 or online at .

Avalanche training camp will start Sept. 13 at Family Sport Center in Centennial. Admission is free and open to the public.
