Vail police are searching for witnesses to a fatal seven-vehicle accident Thursday on Interstate 70 westbound near mile marker 174.

Flight for Life flew Dustin Scriver, 22, to Denver Health Medical Center after the crash, which occurred at about 2 p.m. when a semi-tractor trailer smashed into the back of a vehicle and sparked a chain-reaction crash that involved five other vehicles, police said. Scriver died at the hospital.

Everyone involved in the crash has been identified, but police want to locate more witnesses to recreate the scene, said Vail police Cmdr. Susan Douglas.

“We’re trying to figure out the dynamics of the accident,” she said.

Four others involved in the crash were taken to a Vail hospital, where they were treated and released.

Anyone with more information about the crash is asked to call 970-479-2200.
