Fort Collins — Kyle Bell was hoping for more carries but took quality over quantity with a 49-yard scoring blast on the third offensive drive of the Colorado State’s limited scrimmage today.
“It was good,” said Bell, who sat out 2006 after knee surgery.
The first units ran only three drives, two of them short with a three-and-out and Bell’s long gain. Gartrell Johnson scored on a three-yard run to complete the opening drive. The rest was situational work, special teams and the reserve units.
If there were any lingering questions about tight end Kory Sperry’s blocking ability, he answered by sealing off a lane in the end zone for wide receiver Damon Morton in red zone work.
CSU coach Sonny Lubick said he’d like to scrimmage about 15 more minutes Wednesday. The biggest improvement he’s seen has been in the offensive line.
Footnotes
Offensive tackle Cole Pemberton missed the scrimmage with an ankle sprain. Two players held out of contact during camp, offensive guard Adrian Martinez (knee) and safety Klint Kubiak (hip) are expect to return Monday.
