Boulder County authorities are trying to determine what killed a woman whose body was found today near a popular hiking trail.

A hiker spotted the body at about 8:30 this morning just off the Mesa Trail, one mile northwest of the trail’s parking lot on Eldorado Springs Drive south of Boulder. Authorities said the woman, who has been identified as a 37-year-old Arvada resident, had been dead for a day or two.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that there was nothing to suggest foul play. Officials planned to conduct an autopsy this afternoon.

The Mesa Trail is the main north-south route in the trail system between Eldorado Springs and Boulder’s iconic Flatirons.
