PARK CITY, Utah—Austrian Daniela Iraschko, who won the first two official Continental Cup women’s jumping meets at Utah Olympic Park in 2004, won two more contests Sunday to complete a weather-plagued schedule at the 2002 Olympic venue.
Iraschko, who leads the Continental Cup women’s standings after eight competitions, edged defending cup champion Anette Sagen in each event, including a half-point margin of victory in the late-day event on the 100-meter hill.
“We should stay in Park City all the time. This is a good hill for me,” Iraschko said.
In the morning, Iraschko had jumps of 96.5 and 95 meters for 226.5 points. Sagen went 103 meters on her first jump but fell, costing her style points. However, she had the longest jump (87 meters) in the final round to finished with 216.0 in a meet postponed from Saturday night by high winds.
Late Sunday, a thunder and lightning storm forced a 45-minute delay as the regularly scheduled meet was to start. When it was held, Iraschko jumped 79 and 99.5 meters for 221.5 points; Sagen went 80.5 and 99 meters for 221.0 points and first-round leader Nata de Leeuw of Canada was third (215.0) on jumps of 82.5 and 93 meters.
Top American for the day was Jessica Jerome, who tied for sixth in the morning while Lindsey Van was ninth in the second meet.
The women face a three-month break before resuming their schedule in Norway before Christmas.
The ski jumping hills are the same as in winter, but in summer, the landing hill is covered with special plastic matting, which—when sprayed with water periodically in each event—simulates snowy conditions.
