The Colorado Springs Sky Sox fell in their season-ending game Monday, as the host Tacoma Rainiers got a home run and two RBIs from Ronnie Prettyman and prevailed 5-2 in a Pacific Coast League game.

Prettyman’s double capped a three-run first inning that put the Rainiers (68-76) ahead for good.

Colorado Springs’ Omar Quintanilla drove in Tino Sanchez with an RBI single in the second inning, and Doug Bernier scored on Jolbert Cabrera’s single in the fifth as the Sky Sox (69-75) finished with 10 hits.

Colorado Springs finished second in the Northern Division, 5 1/2 games behind postseason qualifier Salt Lake (74-69). Tacoma was third.

Former AFA aide Miller goes to CSU-Pueblo

The revamped football program at CSU-Pueblo added former Air Force Academy assistant coach Tom Miller as its defensive line coach, ThunderWolves athletic director Joe Folda said.

Miller coached under former Falcons coach Fisher DeBerry for 23 years, most recently as special-teams coordinator. At Air Force, Miller coached in 14 bowl games. His résumé also includes stops at Dartmouth, The Citadel, Davidson College and Bridgeport.

Rapids’ Mastroeni to play for U.S. vs. Brazil

Rapids midfielder-defenseman Pablo Mastroeni was one of 19 players named to the U.S. men’s national soccer team roster for an international friendly against Brazil on Sunday in Chicago.
