Three people were thrown from cars and killed Labor Day morning in two separate Colorado accidents. Both involved drivers traveling at high speeds, authorities said.

Two men died after they were thrown from a car as it rolled about 1 mile east of Collbran — northeast of Grand Junction in Mesa County, said A.M. Laing of the Colorado State Patrol.

Frank Finley, 27, of Fort Morgan was killed sometime Monday morning near the northeastern Colorado city after he failed to make a turn, State Patrol Master Trooper Ron Watkins said.

In the accident near Collbran, a 1999 Ford Escort ran off the right side of Colorado 330 about 1 a.m., striking several rocks. The car began to roll down a steep embankment after it struck several trees, Laing said. The accident was discovered about 7:30 a.m.

The identities and ages of the two victims have not been released pending notification of family members.

About 20 minutes later, Finley’s body was found in a cornfield about 75 feet from a 1997 Chrysler Sebring 6 miles east of Fort Morgan.

The car ran off Morgan County Road R and rolled several times.

Investigations continue in both cases.
