DENVER—The San Francisco Giants recalled infielder Eugenio Velez, catcher Eliezer Alfonzo and left-handed pitcher Erick Threets from Triple-A Fresno on Tuesday.
The Giants also purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Dan Giese from Fresno and placed him on the 40-man roster.
Velez had stolen 118 bases in his first two years with the San Francisco organization. Alfonzo had been the backup catcher on the Giants’ opening day lineup.
Threets was 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA over his last 21 appearances with Fresno. Giese was 3-1 with two saves and a 2.82 ERA in 47 relief appearances with Fresno.
To make room on the 40-man roster for Giese, the Giants moved right-handed pitcher Merkin Valdez to the 60-day disabled list.
