DENVER—The Colorado Rockies purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Josh Newman from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Saturday.
The team placed reliever Ramon Ramirez, out with right shoulder inflammation, on the 60-day disabled list to make room for Newman on the 40-man roster.
The 25-year-old Newman has never made an appearance in the major leagues. He was 3-2 with a 4.06 ERA in 55 relief appearances for the Sky Sox this season.
Newman was selected by Colorado in the 19th round of the 2004 draft.
Ramirez had a 2-2 record and an 8.31 ERA in three stints with the Rockies this season. He was 4-0 with a 2.28 ERA in 25 relief appearances for the Sky Sox.
