Two 17-year-old girls were killed and two 17-year-old boys were injured early this morning in an accident in which one of the boys drove a car in front of a 40-foot delivery truck and was broadsided.

The accident happened just after midnight at 62nd Avenue and Ward Road in Arvada. A 17-year-old boy drove a Mercury Sable westbound on 62nd Avenue into the path of a refrigerated delivery truck going south on Ward Road, said Susan Medina, Arvada police spokeswoman.

The two female victims were identified as Kayla DeMars, who died at the accident scene, and Angelina Ford, who died at St. Anthony’s Central Hospital.

The identities of the males have not been released and their conditions were not immediately available.

It’s not known whether the driver did not see the stop sign at 62nd Avenue or if he ran through it, Medina said.

Following the collision, the Sable smashed into a power pole on the west side of Ward Road, Medina said.

One of the girls was pronounced dead at the scene and the other girl was pronounced dead at St. Anthony’s Central Hospital, Medina said. The boys were taken to the same hospital.

The 41-year-old delivery truck driver was treated at Lutheran Medical Center for minor injuries.

Police continue to investigate the crash, Medina said.
