Police are investigating the discovery of skeletal remains along Cherry Creek, found in thick brush just south of the Cherry Creek shopping center.
About 5 p.m., today, a hiker found the badly decomposed body on the south side of the creek, along the opposite bank of the popular Cherry Creek bike path.
The body was in such bad condition, police spokesman Sonny Jackson said, that officers at the scene were unable to determine whether it was of a man or woman.
Homicide investigators with the Denver Police Department were at the scene, and police also were looking at a late model Honda Element, parked in a small parking lot just off University Boulevard and Cherry Creek Drive South. Using flashlights, investigators searched the SUV type vehicle with all four of its doors and the hatch back open. Police removed what appeared to be a dress and examined it with flashlights.
Jackson said it’s doubtful there is any connection between the SUV and the body, because the latter appears to have been in that spot for “quite some time.”
Residents from a nearby condominium complex said police arrived at the scene late in the afternoon.
