Colorado’s men’s cross country team is ranked second nationally and the women’s team third in preseason rankings released this week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The top-ranked men’s team, Wisconsin, received five first-place votes, one more than the Buffs. The CU women received four first-place votes. The top-ranked women’s team was Michigan, with nine first-place votes.

CU men have won three NCAA team titles and three individual titles since 2001. The women have won two team titles and one individual title. The Colorado State women are 18th in the preseason poll.

CU hires Oregon State assistant coach

The University of Colorado women’s basketball team hired former Oregon State assistant coach Patrick Harrington to the same position at CU, head coach Kathy McConnell-Miller said.

Harrington, 44, spent two seasons at Oregon State as assistant coach in charge of recruiting and game preparation, among other duties. In his first season there, the Beavers improved from 6-23 to 16-15, the best improvement among major schools that season.

Harrington replaces Bethann Shapiro Ord, who left CU in June for the University of Louisville.

Former Portland State assistant track and field coach Chad Perry will be the new women’s track and field and cross country coach at Colorado State-Pueblo, the school said.
