DENVER—Bloodhounds aiding in the search for a missing 3-year-old police believe may have been killed picked up a scent late Sunday morning.
“With the bloodhounds, what we’re looking for is a scent article. Something where we know either the victim or the abductor was at or nearby,” volunteer dog handler Danella McDermed told KUSA.
Miriam Gallegos, the mother of the child, Niveah Gallegos, reported her missing and the possible victim of a kidnapping. Police said the mother had been arrested and charged with false reporting, accessory to a crime and child abuse resulting in death.
Police also arrested Angel Ray Montoya, 22, the woman’s boyfriend. He was being held on suspicion of first-degree murder.
