DENVER—A rocket-powered model plane made by a Colorado company is being recalled because a parachute designed to slow its descent may not deploy.
Estes-Cox Model Rockets of Penrose and the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a voluntary recall Friday for the X-15 Flying Model Rocket.
About 80,000 were made. The rockets were sold from June 2005 through July 2007. They were manufactured in China.
Estes-Cox says it has received more than 30 reports of a malfunction involving the parchute. One case resulted in an arm injury that required surgery.
Buyers were advised not to use the rocket and to contact Estes-Cox about getting a replacement.
