How’d you know?
The winner: Stephen Palm, Winter Park
The wall painting is on the side of a building at a longtime favorite eating establishment in Hideaway Park. The village was incorporated in 1978, and the name was changed from Hideaway Park to Winter Park. Don’t mistake it for Old Town: That is located at the base of the ski area, and near the train tracks heading into the tunnel. The Shed was a great place to head to after a day in the snow. We ordered tapas, beers and martinis aplenty! My favorite tapa was the fried cheese!
Claudia Anderson, Winter Park: The mural, by local artist Katrina Larson, depicts historical happenings of Winter Park, as well as Grand County, and is truly a colorful treat for the eyes. It is painted on the side of longtime restaurant The Shed. (There is another mural, of a train emerging from the historic Moffat Tunnel, on the other side.) You see me here with my hand on the shoulder of Horace Button, an old-time ski jumper from Hot Sulphur Springs.
Judith Schiff, Winter Park: It was painted a number of years ago by a local artist, Katrina Larson, in memory of a young man (Larson’s brother, who died of Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1992). A dedication to this young man is in the lower right corner of the mural. Sadly, The Shed never opened for business this past summer, and the local news is that it will be demolished and replaced with high-end townhomes.
Traci Brammer: This artist did a fantastic job of depicting some of the most beautiful things that Winter Park has to offer. Here is a picture of my daughter Kylee, myself and our dog, Koira, on a hike in Winter Park last weekend.
Janette Benson, Winter Park: I have nice memories of great Mexican food after a day of fun in the snow.
