Rimon 2005 Pomegranate Dessert Wine, 15 percent alcohol, about $38/500ml

It took years for Israeli fruit farmers Gabi and Avi Nachmias to breed a pomegranate with enough natural sweetness to ferment into wine.

The result is just hitting the shelves in the U.S. Made from 100 percent pomegranate juice, Rimon’s dessert wine is a pure essence of the sweet-tart red fruit.

Gorgeously crimson in color, the liquid is sweet and velvety but not cloying in the least: The fruit’s high acidity kicks in to refresh the tongue after every sip. It makes a fabulous companion to chocolate desserts. Available through .
