HELENA, Mont.—Athletes from Portland State, Sacramento State, Montana State and Montana were named Big Sky Conference football players of the week on Monday.
Portland State quarterback Brian White won the offensive weekly title, while Sacramento State linebacker Cyrus Mulitalo and Montana State safety Kevin Retoriano shared the defensive award. Montana kicker Dan Carpenter was named the special teams winner.
White, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound senior from Mission Viejo, Calif., completed 29 of 47 passes for 329 yards and three touchdowns in Portland State’s 28-21 come-from-behind victory over previously undefeated Eastern Washington. He also ran seven times for 50 yards.
Mulitalo, a 6-1, 245-pound junior from San Leandro, Calif., recorded a team-high nine tackles and returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown in Sacramento State’s 38-9 win over Northern Arizona. He also had three solo tackles and a sack.
Retoriano, a 5-9, 175-pound sophomore from San Diego tallied four tackles and returned an interception 83 yards for a touchdown in Montana State’s 40-20 win over Idaho State. His 83-yard return was the second-longest in MSU history and the second-longest in Bobcat Stadium history. Retoriano also had three solo tackles and broke up a pass.
Carpenter, a 6-2, 211-pound senior from Helena made all four of his field goals in top-ranked Montana’s 18-10 win over Weber State. He also averaged 68 yards on his six kickoffs, with one touchback.
