Ski passes vs. cheesesteaks?

Gov. Bill Ritter on Tuesday was mulling possible stakes for a wager with Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell as the Colorado Rockies face the Philadelphia Phillies in a National League division series matchup.

“We already got Allen Iverson from them. What else do they have to bet?” asked Ritter spokesman Evan Dreyer.

The governor, who watched Monday night’s game from a box suite at Coors Field, took some time Tuesday to officially proclaim this month “Rocktober.” He called this time “an autumn we’ll remember for years to come.”

Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Denver, and her aides will dine on Philly cheesesteak sandwiches and beer if the Rockies win. She made a bet with Rep. Robert Brady, D-Pa., who will get La Casita Tamales and Fat Tire beer if the Phillies advance.

“I look forward to some hometown Philly cheesesteaks from the City of Brotherly Love,” DeGette said.

Mayor John Hickenlooper declared today “Colorado Rockies Day,” calling on the whole city to wear purple.

Hickenlooper, who spent his boyhood in the land of the Phillies, said he was not conflicted in the slightest.

“There’s no question,” he said. “I haven’t lived in Philadelphia in 40 years.”

Instead, Hickenlooper said the division playoff opened the door to a little trash talk between Philadelphia and its native son.

Philadelphia Mayor John Street has agreed to send a Philly cheesesteak sandwich and donate three trees to the Mile High Million regional tree-planting program. Hickenlooper is offering a buffalo cheeseburger and a three-tree donation to the GreenPlant Philadelphia initiative, which aims to boost the tree canopy in city neighborhoods.

Even former Colorado Gov. Bill Owens was keeping up with the Rockies from Moscow.

Owens has been watching games on the Internet and getting e-mail updates from his daughter, former gubernatorial office staffers and Rockies owner Charlie Monfort.
