A 31-year-old man has been charged with 18 counts of sexual assault after he allegedly molested a 10-year-old girl repeatedly for two years.
Edward Poitra is charged with four counts of sexual assault on a child, six counts of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust and two counts of sexual assault with a pattern of abuse.
The charges, filed by Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey’s office, allege that Poitra sexually assaulted the girl at least six times from Jan. 1, 2005, to Sept. 22 of this year.
The girl’s mother discovered the abuse on Sept. 22 and reported it to authorities on Sept. 30.
Poitra was arrested Oct. 1, and his bail was set at $200,000. He remains in custody.
