BOSTON – Olympic medalist Deena Kastor won the USA Track and Field 10K championship Monday with a time of 32 minutes, 1 second.

Katie McGregor, who won the past two years, came in second in a field of more than 7,000 runners with a time of 32:41.

Elva Dryer of Gunnison was third in 32:53. Dryer won the USA half-marathon in January.

Kastor, a former resident of Alamosa who won the bronze medal in the marathon at the 2004 Olympics, finished sixth in the 10,000 meters at the world championships in Japan in August. She captured her fifth U.S. 10,000-meter title in June; McGregor finished third in that race. Kastor’s fifth-place finish in this year’s Boston Marathon was the best by an American woman.
