GREEN BAY, Wis.—A couple has settled their complaint against former Green Bay Packer Javon Walker, allowing the family to proceed with its disputed purchase of the wide receiver’s Green Bay home.
Peter and Christina Vanden Heuvel had sued Walker, alleging the current Denver Bronco reneged on an accepted offer to buy his home.
According to a complaint filed last week, the Vanden Heuvels offered to buy Walker’s Gobi Trail home for $220,000 in August. Several days later, Walker made a counteroffer that raised the purchase price to $225,000, adding a caveat that the Vanden Heuvels reduce the price on their own Green Bay house to ensure it would be sold.
The Vanden Heuvels signed the counteroffer. But three days before they were to close on their own house, Walker allegedly asked for more money, threatening to call off the deal if the Vanden Heuvels didn’t come up with the cash.
Brown County Circuit Court Judge Donald Zuidmulder on Friday ruled in favor of the Vanden Heuvels, saying Walker had backed down from his demand. The judge ordered that the Vanden Heuvels be allowed to occupy the house when the closing documents were completed.
The couple and their two children have been living with family while the suit was pending.
Walker didn’t attend Friday’s hearing. A phone message left at his agent’s office Saturday seeking comment was not returned.
Walker was traded to the Broncos last year after an injury sidelined him for most of the 2006 season with the Packers.
