Grand Junction police officers were involved in a gunfight early this morning following a report of gunfire at a residence.

Officers responded to an emergency call at 2852 Belford Ave. around 2 a.m., today. Police termed it a “felony menacing” incident with at least one shot fired.

By the time they arrived, one of the parties had fled.

A short while later they located the vehicle they were looking for just a few blocks away. One person was in the car and apparently fired shots at the officers. Officers returned fire as they apprehended the man.

No officers were injured, according to police spokeswoman Linda Bowman.

The suspect was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

No names of the officers or the suspects have been released.
