An Aspen woman was treated at a hospital this morning after a black bear attacked her in her home, the Colorado Division of Wildlife reported.
Her injuries were not considered life-threatening.
A search is underway to find the bear.
According to the Aspen Police Department, the woman, whose name was not released, woke up about 1:30 a.m. when she heard noise in her kitchen. She went to investigate, and a black bear swatted her in the face.
An ambulance took her to Aspen Valley Hospital to treat claw wounds.
The DOW reported that the bear had entered the woman’s condo on Doolittle Drive through a sliding glass door that was not locked.
Wildlife agents have set traps for the bear, and if it is captured, it will be euthanized because it has exhibited aggressive behavior.
This is the second report of an aggressive bear in recent days. A Snowmass man was attacked by a bear in his garage on Thursday.
The DOW has relocated 24 nuisance bears in Pitkin County this year and euthanized 12.
The agency reminds mountain residents to close and lock doors and keep trash only in bear-proof containers. Birdfeeders, pet food, barbecue grills and fruit trees attract bears, and precautions also should be taken with them.
