A 77-mile stretch of westbound Interstate 80 in Wyoming was closed for six hours early today when a semi-truck rolled over and spilled its load.
Troopers are still trying to determine what caused the semi to crash about 15 miles west of Elk Mountain.
The accident closed I-80 from Laramie to Wolcott from midnight to about 6:30 a.m. During the road closure, all westbound traffic was re-routed onto U.S. 30 at Laramie.
The driver, Adrian Rafalo, 23, of LaGrange Highlands, Ill., was first transported to a Rawlins hospital and then was airlifted to Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.
Rafalo was partially pinned in the truck and was extricated.
State patrol spokesman Sgt. Stephen Townsend said the truck rolled into the median and spilled Texapon N95 — a powder and strong oxidizing agent used in household, industrial and institutional cleaners — into the westbound lanes.
The load originated in Illinois and was destined for California. Wyoming Department of Transportation crews used water and sand to clean the Texapon off of the road.
