COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The deaths of a mother and her young son in Teller County were the result of a murder-suicide, authorities said.
The woman’s father found the bodies of Michelle Rodgers, 41, and her son, 3, in a bedroom on Monday night.
Both had been shot.
Rodgers’ father went to the home after she failed to pick her 16-year-old twin sons from Woodland Park High School earlier in the day.
Teller County Sheriff Kevin Dougherty said the boys went with their grandfather to their home on Monday, but stayed outside while he went in because he was afraid something was wrong.
It was unclear when the shootings occurred. The twins last saw their mother at about 7 a.m. Monday when she dropped them off at school.
A motive for the incident was under investigation.
The killings occurred the same day that Rodgers’ ex-husband was scheduled for a parole hearing. Keith Gorski is serving 5-1/2 years in prison for kidnapping and menacing.
Dougherty called it pure speculation as to whether the chance that Rodgers’ ex-husband might be paroled may have had anything to do with the woman’s actions.
