GOLDEN, Colo.—Authorities have arrested a man accused of shooting at deputies before leading them on a 100-mile-an-hour chase west of Denver.

One Jefferson County deputy was treated for a back injury from a crash that ended the chase.

Deputies were preparing to approach a pickup Thursday when someone inside fired a shot. The pickup then sped away.

Authorities say one sheriff’s car forced the pickup into a spin and another struck it head-on to keep the driver from escaping.

Jacob Anthony Avila was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a peace officer. The 22-year-old was treated for minor cuts and scrapes.

The pickup was reported stolen during an armed robbery in Topeka, Kansas. It’s not clear whether Avila is suspected in that case.
