
Brandon Vossberg’s goal in the first period stood as the game-winner as Denver defeated Minnesota State 2-1 on Friday night at Magness Arena.
The Pioneers trailed 1-0 late in the first period but scored two goals in a span of just 22 seconds to take back the lead.
After Trevor Bruess scored short-handed for the Mavericks (3-5-1, 1-5-1 WCHA) at 15:29, Denver freshman Kyle Ostrow tied the game 63 seconds later, deflecting a shot by Brian Gifford into the net. Seconds after the ensuing faceoff, Vossberg gave DU (7-2-0, 4-1-0) the lead on a shot out of the corner that hit the back of goalie Mike Zacharias’ legs and squirted into the net.
Denver outshot Minnesota State 10-5 in the first period, but the Mavericks finished with a 29-28 advantage.
