The forecast high for Thanksgiving is 30 degrees, but organizers for the 34th annual Mile High United Way Turkey Trot don’t think the weather will ice this year’s turnout.

“Our people support us even in the snow,” said organizer Stacy Haskell, who added that almost 6,000 people have pre-registered for the race and she anticipates another 4,000 on race day. “It’s a tradition for a lot of families.”

The 4-mile run begins at 10:15 a.m. in Washington Park and is followed by the walk and family run. All proceeds from the race go to the Adult Self-Sufficiency Initiative, which is part of the United Way’s 10-year plan to end homelessness.

Registration is $30 for adults and $20 for children under 12 and can be completed at the race from 8 to 10 a.m. or at .

The Beck Recreation Center in Aurora will host “Huff-n-Puff Before You Stuff” from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Anyone age 12 or older can use the facility for free with a donation of two cans of food, baby products or personal hygiene products.

An extra donation given during the first hour buys a 10-minute chair massage.

The Turkey Day 5K in Highlands Ranch will benefit the Colorado National Guard Foundation, which provides financial support to Colorado Guard members and their families. The race begins at 9 a.m. at Shea Stadium in Redstone Park.

The race-day registration is $40 for runners age 16 and older and $20 for anyone under 15. More information is available at .

The sixth annual Loveland Turkey Trot begins at 8 a.m. and will take runners on a new 3-mile course this year. Fees vary from $20 to $25 for adults, $10 to $15 for children and $18 to $21 for team racers.
