A woman is dead and her boyfriend in custody after a stabbing early Wednesday in Northglenn.
Police accuse Melvin Amaya- Martinez, 34, of stabbing Carmen Benitez-Sanchez in her side at their apartment at 10648 Huron St. about 1 a.m.
Benitez-Sanchez’s adult son and his wife were there. They told police that Amaya-Martinez had stabbed the victim and fled.
Officers searched the surrounding area, found him and took him into custody. Benitez-Sanchez was taken to St. Anthony North Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Amaya-Martinez told officials he is from El Salvador and in the country illegally. He was taken to the Adams County Detention Facility and is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder.
