CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo.—Gov. Ritter’s climate change policy adviser has agreed to talk with Denver-area car dealers about the possibility that Colorado will adopt California’s automobile pollution standards.

The California standards call for a 30 percent cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2016. That’s tougher than the federal requirements.

Some 15 states have already adopted the California standards.

The Colorado Automobile Dealers Association has warned that the industry could suffer if the state adopts tougher standards. The group says a better idea would be to offer incentives to drivers to switch to cleaner cars.

Ritter climate adviser Heidi Van Genderen is scheduled to meet with the car dealers at midday Tuesday.
