A Fort Collins man was taken to a local hospital this morning after a fire broke out in his home.

The Poudre Fire Authority was called to the fire at about 5 a.m. by the homeowner at 306 Starboard Court, Captain Patrick Love said in a press release.

When firefighters arrived, within 5 minutes, flames were showing from the the first and second stories on the rear side of the home, Love said.

The homeowner, who was not named, was the only one in the residence and escaped the fire before crews arrived.

The fire was brought under control in about 25 minutes, Love said.

A dollar amount on the damage to the home was not available, but it was “extensive,” Love said.

Injuries to the home owner, who was taken to Poudre Valley Hospital, were not life threatening, Love said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
