An 18-year-old man was arrested after he told a court security officer at the Douglas County Justice Center that his cellphone was a bomb, authorities say.

Jordan Wells was arrested Thursday morning for investigation of false report of explosives, disorderly conduct, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of alcohol by a minor and possession of fireworks, said Cocha Heyden, spokeswoman for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Wells was going through the metal detector and placed his cellphone in a plastic container to be x-rayed when he told a Wackenhut Security officer that the device was a bomb, Heyden said. He repeated the statement when a security officer asked him about it.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Bomb team was called to the scene after the security officer took the phone to the grass outside, she said.

When the team x-rayed the cellphone they determined it was not a bomb, Heyden said.

Authorities searched Wells’ car and found illegal fireworks, alcohol and drug paraphernalia, she said.
