Colorado’s 10th Mountain Division Huts Association recently announced the opening of the Continental Divide Cabin, an addition to the system that will be available for rental this winter. The new, privately owned hut is less than a mile from the Tennessee Pass Trailhead in the Leadville area and will accommodate up to eight people per night.

Because of the hut’s intimate size, all eight spots must be reserved at the same time for a fee of $280 plus tax per night. Users will be rewarded with a hut experience that is currently not available in the system — a relatively easy trip with close proximity to the trailhead and minimal elevation gain. The hut, found off Highway 24 just 9 miles from Leadville, also offers 15 miles of beginner-to-intermediate touring trails nearby and is within easy striking distance of Ski Cooper, the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center and the Tennessee Pass Cookhouse, for those who prefer a gourmet meal prepared by someone else.

The Continental Divide Cabin is owned and operated by longtime local Lee Rimel. Reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis through the 10th Mountain reservations desk at 970-925-5775. Motorized use is prohibited in the surrounding area.
